Probably the best start in processing L. vannamei comes with proper post-harvest handling. The first step is to evaluate ponds for presence of soft-shelled shrimp. As ponds are harvested, farmers and processor agents should pull representative samples and check for percentage soft-shelled shrimp.

On the 16th day, a mixture of PO1B/ PO2B is used up to four times a day until an average weight of 5 g is achieved.
The shrimp farms comprise 500 hectares of ponds in a total land area of 1,007 hectares. Combined, the ponds can produce about 50,000 Metric Tons of shrimp annually. The shrimp processing facility in Pulilan, Bulacan can process 60 Metric Tons per day of shrimp raw material.

P. vannamei weighing 30–45 g will spawn 100 000–250 000 eggs of approximately 0.22 mm in diameter. Hatching occurs about 16 hours after spawning and fertilization. The first stage larvae, termed nauplii, swim intermittently and are positively phototactic. Nauplii do not feed, but live on their yolk reserves.
